Areas of Expertise

I was educated at the University of Newcastle and the Architectural Association. On completing my education in 1983, I was invited by Bernard Tschumi my external examiner to work on the Parc de la Villette, Paris. Working on the project I met my future business partner Kathryn Gustafson. In 1997 after I had worked as an architect for Terry Farrell, Ian Ritchie and Alsop and Lyall, I agreed to set up Gustafson Porter a landscape architecture practice in London. The practice, has grown from 3 people and now averages 30 landscape architects and architects, working on authentic, engaging and prestigious projects around the world often won through competitions.

I have been the lead designer on award winning landscape projects such as Old Market Square Nottingham; Kings Dock, Liverpool; New Ludgate, Woolwich Squares and Chelsea Barracks, London. I have shared the lead design role on projects such as the Westergasfabriek Cultuur Park, Amsterdam; the Garden of Forgiveness, Beirut, the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial, Hyde Park; Marina One, Singapore and York Central, York. Currently Gustafson Porter and Bowman are designers of the Site Tour Eiffel for the City of Paris.
