Catherine Burd
Areas of Expertise
Conservation & Heritage, Housing, Masterplanning
As founding director of Burd Haward Architects (BHA), a critically acclaimed small architectural practice, I have over 25 years experience of leading the design and delivery of award-winning new build housing, education and cultural projects.
I have particular conservation expertise and have delivered both new-build and large scale conservation projects at internationally significant historic sites, including at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, and for the National Trust.
I am currently leading design and delivery of an important programme of works at Grade I listed Queen’s College, Oxford. A champion of design quality in the profession, I am Chair of both LB Camden’s and Kensington & Chelsea’s Design Review Panels, a member of the LLDC (Olympic Legacy) panel and the new Oxford panel, where I enjoy reviewing and providing strategic design advice at early planning stage. I have been a BEE at the Design Council since 2005, most recently serving on a confidential advice panel for a public estate.
I have taught and lectured widely, sat on architectural and construction awards juries and am currently external examiner on the International Architectural Masters course at University of Ghent, Belgium.
